Before sending your design off for printing, it's important to understand the file requirements for screen printing. Submitting the right kind of file ensures your artwork looks crisp, your prints are accurate, and your turnaround stays fast.

At Avodroc Custom Printing in Richardson, TX, we’ve created this quick guide to help you prep your files the right way—saving you time, money, and revisions.

✅ Preferred File Formats

For best results, submit artwork in one of these professional formats:

  • AI (Adobe Illustrator)

  • EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)

  • SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)

  • PDF (Vector-based only)

  • High-Resolution PNG (Transparent background)

  • PSD (Layered file, 300 DPI minimum)

❌ Avoid: JPGs from the web, screenshots, or low-res files—these won’t print cleanly.

✅ Resolution: 300 DPI Minimum

  • Your file must be at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) at actual print size

  • Low-res images (72 DPI) will appear blurry or pixelated

  • For best quality, design your file at the size you want it printed

✅ Vector Files Are Ideal

  • Vector artwork can be resized without losing quality

  • Best for logos, text-based designs, and simple graphics

  • File formats: AI, EPS, SVG, PDF (vector)

✅ Use Spot Colors (Not Gradients)

Screen printing uses spot colors, not continuous tones. Each color in your design will be printed separately using its own screen.

  • Avoid gradients, shadows, or photo effects

  • Stick to flat, solid colors for the cleanest results

  • Use Pantone codes for exact color matching (optional)

✅ Outline All Fonts

If you're submitting an Illustrator or vector file:

  • Convert all text to outlines (or curves)

  • This ensures the design will look exactly as you created it, even if we don’t have your font installed

✅ Transparent Backgrounds Only

  • Remove any background color unless you want it printed

  • For raster files (PNG or PSD), use transparent backgrounds

This avoids unexpected boxes or unwanted shapes being printed behind your design.

✅ Proper Sizing for Garments

Make sure your design is sized appropriately for the print location:

  • Full chest/front: 10"–12" wide

  • Back prints: up to 14" wide

  • Left chest: 3"–4" wide

  • Sleeve print: approx. 3" wide
